Cycle of Life

The poaching of African wildlife, especially rhinos, and the destruction of nature reserves is becoming an increasingly urgent issue. Poachers target the animals for their horns, which are falsely believed in many countries to be a miracle cure for cancer, epilepsy, and strokes.

In 2018, our CEO, Dr. Georg Landsberg, together with two friends, founded the non-profit organization "Cycle of Life – Association for Animal, Species and Environmental Protection and Humanitarian Aid in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa e.V." All donations are used 100% for the organization’s purposes; all administrative costs are personally covered by the board members.

plus medica GmbH & Co. KG supports the organization to help protect highly endangered rhinos and to raise awareness of the animals' desperate situation. Despite all protective efforts, these magnificent creatures are still at risk of extinction.

More people can achieve more. Support our project to secure a future for rhinos.

Projects that have already been implemented thanks to donations:

  • Installation of a solar power system to ensure the security of the three entrance gates to the Phinda area, even in the event of a power outage or tampering.
  • Dehorning of rhinos to prevent poaching in the Kube Yini Game Reserve, in the KZN National Parks, in the Mpumalanga National Park, and in the Zululand Rhino Orphanage.
  • Installation of surveillance cameras on the N2 highway between Phinda Game Reserve and Manyoni Game Reserve to monitor and track incoming and outgoing vehicles.
  • Rhino ear notching for individual identification of animals within a population. The collected data is used, for example, to enable targeted translocations to preserve genetic diversity.
  • Intensive medical care for orphaned rhinos.
  • Relocation of a boma (a secure enclosure with palisade walls) to the Zululand Rhino Orphanage.
  • Cooperation with FutureLife and Bayala Private Safari Lodges to establish a school feeding program.

Landsberg Award formerly Ehrenhof Award

Art and culture play a central role in the development of a society. They are the link between citizens, society and the state. They educate, inspire and provide important stimuli and food for thought in order to critically scrutinize social developments in the world. Finally, art and culture provide important impulses for the fruitful development of the economy in freedom and responsibility.

For this reason, Dr. Georg Landsberg initiated the artist award in 2015 and awarded it to art students Robert Brambora and Christian Seidler for the first time.

In 2016, the Ehrenhof Artist Award was launched in collaboration with the Museum Kunstpalast and the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. The prize is aimed at graduates of the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf who present their final works at the annual tour.

Since 2019, the former Ehrenhof Award has been named after its founder and is now called the Landsberg Award. In contrast to the Ehrenhof Award, it is awarded to artists who graduated several years ago, as it is particularly difficult for these artists to be accepted into funding programs.

We wish all the awardwinners all the best and every success for their effective work.

Our thanks also go to the jury members of the Ehrenhof Prize Dr. Stefanie Kreuzer, Museum Morsbroich Leverkusen, Prof. Rita McBride, Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, Prof. Mischa Kuball, Kunsthochschule für Medien, Cologne and Felix Krämer, General Director Kunstpalast and to the jury of the Landsberg Prize consisting of Kunstpalast Director Felix Krämer, Kay Heymer (Head of the Modern Art Department at the Kunstpalast), Stefanie Kreuzer (Curator at Schloss Morsbroich Leverkusen) and the founder himself.
